Sihanoukville

sunny 36 °C

This place is like a little Benidorm, especially as it is the New Year here so loads of Cambodians are also here on Holiday, it is packed!!! But its not what we expected though, the Lonely Planet says that it is a quiet beach with nice hideaway beach huts but it isn’t. It must have boomed in the last few years because the whole of the beach is covered in sun loungers and parasols with music pumping from the small bars that they are attached to. Then there are jet skis, and banana boats and small children selling bracelets and fruit.

We use this place as a base inbetween our trips to Bamboo Island and Koh Rung Island so we stay here on 3 different occasions.

The 2nd time we stay here is over Steph’s birthday and we splash out and get a really nice place to stay for a few nights. It’s like a suite thing with a balcony and a second floor with great views of the sea. We got loads of balloons and Champers and a cake as well!! Then we went out for dinner and had a good night.

Overall Sihanouk is a very touristy town, and not what we expected. But it was a handy place to base ourselves for visits to some of the islands around there.
